THE COURSE
Students of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) founded the United Nations International Student Conference Amsterdam (UNISCA) in 1996. These students wanted to give other students from various countries the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of international politics in general and the United Nations in particular. Today, UNISCA is an international interdisciplinary university course worth 10 ECs, awarded by the UvA. The course consists of three lecture days and a conference week.
As for most academic courses you are required to pass an exam. This together with the writing of a position paper will prepare you for your participation in the UN conference simulation taking place from 7th – 14th January 2011. Throughout the lecture days you will be trained in debating, lobbying and resolution writing. Experts in many different areas will provide you with the tools and the knowledge they have acquired throughout their professional careers. At the actual UN conference simulation your knowledge and skills will be put to the test when you are representing a UN member state or a UN recognized organization, for which you will need to lobby and debate on resolutions in the assigned forum. The final conference day is highlighted by the General Assembly. Throughout the conference week, UNISCA will also provide an evening program. During the evening program you will be able learn more about your fellow students and experience Amsterdam’s nightlife!
